Baby It's Cold Outside!

Brrrr...those temperatures are not climbing very high this week!  Cows seem to be weathering it okay and the old feed truck keeps trudging on even if she had to be pull started to get there. Looking forward to a warm 2016 with lots of green grass.

Time to Fire up the Feed Truck!

The winter storm blew in on Monday and there was no choice but to start feeding.  The cows have been doing really well on protein blocks and grubbing the Fall Feed, but it's all covered up now. It blew and snowed pretty much most of the day.

Preview Day

A great day for a picnic in the pasture!  We had probably almost as many family attend as potential buyers, but that's what makes it fun.  Good times to remember.

Where it all Began!

I'll be happy if I get a cow!

Great Lunch!

More Pics

We got the last set of pictures done today. What a good feeling!  The calves are really starting to blossom as they are taking off on the grain.  Some of the early ones that we clipped are already hairing back up.  We weighed them also and were pleasantly surprised.  They range from 480 up to 800 lbs so they'll work at about any show there is.  There are some nice calves to choose from.

Lot 18 CS312 Eye Candy Steer...4 white stocking feet. He's Cool!  Will need some time & TLC from an experienced showman.

Caught in the Action!

Sometimes it's fun to film those behind the scenes.  It takes a lot of patience and sometimes just plain luck to get that perfect shot.  The girls have started taking over the Social Media for us.  Kamri is working on Instagram and Aubrey is working on a new Barker Cattle Company Facebook page. Check it out! Whatever it takes to get the word out...we have some great calves this year!

Picture Day Again

Another round of pictures taken today.  They have been weaned for 3 weeks now and getting about 6 lbs of grain/day.    As soon as they hear the 4 wheeler pull in they are lined up at the fence.  They have been getting more used to people walking through them and as we water them will come up and lick us at the trough.  Overall a great bunch of calves and when you get in among them you appreciate them even more.

Gathering Cows from the Forest

Hard to believe it's that time of year that the cows need to come back home from the Forest Permit.  The guys have been riding the past week gathering and sorted yesterday and today.  It's quite a sight to see and no small feat to get everyone back to their own fields.  It was reported that over 35 riders were up to the task today.  Some old, some young, but mostly the same crowd that comes year after year to get the job done.
