Making Hay while the Sun Shines...and while it Doesn't!

The guys have been going around the clock working to get the hay put up.  1st Crop at Malta is done & in the stacks.  What a good feeling!

Tom running the baler. Nice to be able to do it in the daytime for a change of pace!  A little thunderstorm allowed for that.

Bowdrie on the rakes.

The Barley on the hill.  This piece of ground has only had sagebrush for a long time.  A neighbor commented how good it was to see the ground in production.

The barley in the valley all laid down and drying. Waiting for it's turn to be raked & baled up.

Ruel & Braden hauling the 1st pivot. Just baled last night.

View from the hill

Up in the stacks..looks so good!

Glad Ruel is still smiling..Get some sleep, Braden!

Headed to the Forest

Up Bright & Early with quite a crew to take the cows to the Forest Permit.  It looked like we might get wet for a while, but then it cleared up and was a perfect day to ride, enjoy the mountain view, and push cows.

A beautiful view of the Elba Canyon

Another year of branding complete!

The one that got away!

Another year of branding is completed.  It's nice to have the cows AI'ed and turned out to the bulls on green grassy pastures.  Wish it could stay this way.

A crew of kids!

Waiting for the release...will he catch?

This is what it's all about!

Welcome May!

The view from the front porch this morning...great big flakes that turned into sleet and then rain.  It stayed in here most of the day really soaking things up.  This should help the newly planted barley & oats come in good when the sun shines.

Can see the rows of barley in between snowflakes!

Branding Smoke is in the Air!

Great Day for Branding!  Started gathering at 6:30 am and finally finished 118 head of calves and put cidrs in the cows around 2:30.   We go from cycle to cycle...it's a busy time of the year.
Garrett, Kamri, & Brodey took turns pushing the calves up. They did great!

It takes a whole crew to get the job done!

Nice to be done for the day...Lunch time?

Logan ran the head catch on the chute & only had to buy one pop!  Brodey making sure this calf is staying put to be retagged.

Spring Vaccinating cows & calves

Tom, Braden, & Bowdrie bringing the cows & calves down from the Cedars.
Brought in the first group of cows to start giving Spring vaccinations so that we can begin breeding soon.  Hard to believe it's already that time of the year!
